Sender ID

What is a Sender ID?

A Sender ID is the name or number that appears as the message sender on the recipient’s phone when they receive an SMS. Instead of showing a random phone number, your SMS can display your business or brand name—giving your messages a more professional and trusted appearance.

Example:

When you send an SMS, the receiver could see:

From: HUDUMA

instead of a generic number like:

From: +255712345678

Sender ID Format & Limitations

  • Maximum Length: 11 characters
  • Characters Allowed: Alphanumeric (A-Z, 0-9, no special characters or spaces)
  • Case Sensitivity: Sender IDs are case-sensitive, so MyBrand and MYBRAND are treated as two different IDs.

✅ Tip: Keep your Sender ID short, clear, and easily recognizable.

Best Practices for Choosing a Sender ID

To ensure successful delivery and maintain professionalism, follow these guidelines:

  • ✅ Be Brand-Specific: Use your company or service name (Huduma, ZawadiPay, etc.).
  • ❌ Avoid Generic Terms: Names like Info, SMS, Test, or Admin may be blocked or filtered.
  • ❌ Don't Use Reserved Terms: Avoid impersonating banks, governments, or other institutions unless you're authorized.
  • ⚠️ Consider Case Usage: Stick to a consistent casing format (e.g., Huduma, not HUDUMA, unless branding requires it).
